Terms

The license, in plain English.

Last updated 26 October 2026

The short version

You can use Desk Vinyl for free. If you buy Desk Vinyl Pro, it's yours to keep on one Mac at a time. Please don't copy, resell or take the app apart. It comes as it is, and we can't promise Apple or the music apps won't change something it relies on.

Licensed, not sold

Desk Vinyl is made by Amit Rand, the licensor ("we" and "us" on this page). When you download it, you get a personal, non-exclusive license to use it on your Mac. You don't buy the software itself; Amit Rand keeps all rights to it.

Free and Pro

One Mac at a time

A Pro license works on one Mac at a time. To move it, choose Deactivate This Mac… in Desk Vinyl (menu bar icon, then Desk Vinyl Pro…), then enter your key on the new Mac. If you no longer have the old Mac, deactivate it from your license portal (the link is in your purchase email).

Buying through Polar

Desk Vinyl Pro is sold by Polar, which acts as the merchant of record and reseller. That means your purchase is made from Polar, under Polar's buyer terms. Polar handles payment, tax, receipts and your license key. Refunds are covered on the refund page.

What you can't do

Desk Vinyl is closed source. Please don't reverse engineer, decompile or modify it, get around the license check, or share, sell or redistribute the app or your license key.

Warranty

The free version is provided as is. For Desk Vinyl Pro, we promise it will work as described on our website when you buy it. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, we make no other promises. If you're a consumer, you keep the rights your local law gives you (for example, under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 or EU digital content rules), and nothing in these terms limits them. Desk Vinyl relies on macOS desktop widgets and on the automation that Spotify and Apple Music offer on the Mac. Apple, Spotify or Apple Music may change those at any time, so we can't guarantee the app will keep working with every future version of macOS or of those apps. We'll do our best to keep up.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, from using or not being able to use Desk Vinyl. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid for Desk Vinyl Pro, or nothing if you use the free version. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Trademarks

Spotify is a trademark of Spotify AB. Apple Music, Mac and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries and regions. They're mentioned only to describe what Desk Vinyl works with. Desk Vinyl isn't affiliated with or endorsed by either company.

Changes and governing law

If these terms change, the new version will be posted here with a new date. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the consumer law where you live.
